Expat Safety Checklist

Register with your embassy. This is the single most important step. Embassy registration (e.g., US STEP, UK FCDO alerts) ensures you receive evacuation notifications.
Keep travel documents accessible. Passport, Emirates ID, visa copies, and insurance documents should be in a grab bag, not a locked drawer.
Have cash on hand. ATMs may not work during disruptions. Keep AED 2,000–5,000 and some USD in cash at home.
Charge all devices. Keep phones, power banks, and laptops charged at all times. Download offline maps of Abu Dhabi and neighboring countries.
Know your exit routes. Identify the nearest border crossings (Al Ain to Oman, Abu Dhabi to Dubai). Keep your car fueled.
Stock essentials. 3–5 days of water, non-perishable food, medications, and baby supplies if applicable.
Set up a family communication plan. Agree on a meeting point and an out-of-area contact person who can relay messages if local networks go down.
Check insurance coverage. Verify whether your health and travel insurance covers evacuation, war risk, and repatriation.
Follow official sources only. Rely on embassy alerts, NCEMA, and verified news. Ignore rumors on social media.
Do NOT go to the airport unless you have a confirmed flight. Airports may be crowded and flights cancelled without notice.
